Flags of our fathers
On the weekend nearest 11 June is Mbanderu Day which is when the Green Flag Herero people meet in traditional dress in memory of their fallen chief, Kahimenua Nguvauva executed in Okahandja on June the 13th of 1896 during his fight against the german occupation. In this weekend hundreds of people arrive and set up their tents at a wide space. Women use to wear their traditional big colourful costumes, and men wear military uniforms. The troops march all day to their very own rhythm regardless of the hot sun in the sky and the dust on the ground in memory of their fallen heroes.
